U-Verse app for both Amazon Fire TV and Fire Tablet no longer gets ESPN channels
For over 1 week, the U-Verse app for both Fire TV and Fire Tablet can't access ESPN channels. When one tries to do that you get an error message stating: "ESPN content is not available outside the US" ES 1004 403. I have location services enabled, cleared cache, cleared data, etc but still can't get ESPN channels to load on TV or Tablet.
I presume this U-verse app failure to correctly check/verify location was due to a software update. That's because there were no problems accessing ESPN channels prior to the last week.
Separately, I can get ESPN channels via the ESPN app on the Fire tablet with location services enabled, i.e. ESPN channels load & no error messages.
AT&T must support the U-Verse app for AMAZON Fire OS devices/equipment as there are still many U-Verse customers, especially in my condo complex. Can anyone reading this please contact U-Verse software tech support please. I've already reported this issue to AT&T Office of the President who said that the U-Verse app is not supported by that office.
Thanks

I'm thinking that ESPN[/Disney/ABC] may have forced AT&T to adhere to the terms of their retransmit agreement which appears to limit streaming to mobile devices and not large screens. I just saw a post where a user could not use the ESPN app to watch content when logged in to their DIRECTV account on a firestick, but could on a phone--until they tried to cast it or connect via HDMI cable.

Hello again JefferMC and thanks for your assumption but my Fire Tablet is not a large screen and Uverse app on it can't access ESPN channels either. This problem did not exist 1 week ago as I was able to watch any ESPN channel on BOTH Fire TV and Fire Tablet. I have reported this issue to ESPN to see if they can resolve it.
For anyone that has an ESPN related app issue: call ESPN at (888) 549-3776 option 1 then 0 to report the problem experienced with either ESPN app or ESPN channels not available on U-Verse app.

I missed the Fire tablet. I saw FireTV and went from there. Yes, it should work on the Tablet. I haven't retried my FireTV in a while.

Well ain’t that something. I see the problem on my iPhone as well.
I suggest using the app review systems and post there. No way for any of us to report problems to att.
On Fire devices you can usually watch ESPN live using your Uverse credentials.

1. I didn't move- have lived in Santa Clara, CA for 51 years!
2. As I reported above I CAN'T WATCH ESPN on Uverse app for either Fire TV or Fire Tablet
3. I can't watch ESPN on Uverse app for Android (Samsung phone) either. "Content not available outside US" That despite location services are enabled.
4. I have reported the problem to the AT&T Office of the President which says their office does not support the Uverse app. Previously they did, but AT&T stopped selling Uverse TV to new customers about 1 year ago
5. I have also reported it to ESPN last Saturday via 1 (888) 549-3776 option 1 then 0 and spoke at length to Mark in Michigan

I just loaded the U-verse App and watched ESPN and SEC (and a little bit of a SEC+ show) on both a Fire Tablet and my FireTV Cube. I also used the ESPN app to watch games on ESPN and SEC.
The ESPN app did a better job. Less buffering, better video quality. I did have to retry the authentication several times (got white error message screen that's been posted here several times... I just hit back and then selected AT&T U-verse as my provider to try again. After 3 or 4 times it just went through). I was at home so it told me I didn't need to provide credentials, it was going to log me on, but then prompted for credentials... that's when I started backing up and trying again.
Anyway, that's my experience and applies only to me, but it says that it still works for some people.

ESPN content now available on Fire TV as well. Haven't checked Fire tablet or Samsung (Android) phone. Apparently, the March 23, 2021 Uverse app update (version 6.4.4) disable location services for ESPN such that it generated "Content not available outside the US" error messages

It’s not disabling location services. I had checked all of that and it was flat broken across the board.

Uverse app on Fire TV wasn't completely broke. I cd get every channel offered except ESPN with error message "Content not available outside US" I've had location services enabled and AMZN verified they could read it as being in CA, USA

Uverse and/or ESPN use IP Geolocation when the device doesn't have a GPS chip. AT&T probably uses one provider, Amazon another, ESPN probably yet another.

Thanks for that input JefferMC. However, AMZN Executive Tech Support told me that my location services are enabled and it was up to the content provider (in this case ESPN) to check it. The method used for geo location isn't relevant.
Key point is that I was able to watch ESPN channels before March 23 2021 (most recent update of the U-verse app), but couldn't until today on Fire TV. Again I haven't checked the Fire tablet which doesn't have integrated GPS silicon.
Again, I reported this problem to the AT&T Executive Office who told me they no longer support the U-Verse app!
