ESPN Unlimited

Is there a reason (well, I know there is but I am not sure I understand it) that DIRECTV satellite customers will not get the ESPN Unlimited but DIRECTV Stream customers will?

Satellite customers will get it. From a recent article in DIRECTV Insider:

ESPN Unlimited is already available to MySports customers, will also be added soon to Signature and grandfathered streaming customers without a Gemini device, and satellite and U-verse customers will gain access later this fall.

Will the satellite customers get access before the deadline for NHL Center Ice renewals arrives?  ESPN+ would make CI redundant...

@thboyd29 You don’t really have to decide until closer to October, do you?

As for satellite customers getting ESPN Unlimited, I wouldn’t count on it happening quickly. I’ve heard that it’s coming to satellite sometime in the fall, and we’re technically not even there yet.

If we’re getting into October and it hasn’t happened yet, I guess I’d look at it this way. On pretty much any TV provider, Center Ice is a better experience than having to tediously maneuver around the ESPN app. Still, it’s hard to beat the price for ESPN+, especially when it’s part of a bundle.

So, I put up with the shortcomings of the streaming service. You apparently are willing to do the same, so if it hasn’t come to satellite by the start of the NHL season, I would think about subscribing to ESPN Unlimited or even the cheaper version that is basically just ESPN+, and you can drop it whenever you’re able to get it free from DIRECTV.
