credit managment fee

 Is it legal for directtv to charge $199 for a Credit Management Fee when the sales tech did not mention this fee at the time we signed up? Also is it allowed for the techs to offer discounts and not tell you that they signed you up for auto pay?

Sales agent should go over all the details. For your protection, you are sent the order confirmation listing everything on the order including if you have a fee based on credit. Being on auto bill pay and paperless billing is usually a requirement for a small part of the promotion, as listed in the advertisements of the offer.

Yes they should have clearly gone over the info. That order confirmation is your safety net to review before you are installed and activated so you can ask questions, modify the order, or even cancel it.

@Juniper That information was not on the direc tv order details they sent me on 8/28/25 which was a day after the install. I later found this fee on my bill online, but service had just begun on 8/27/25. I called them yesterday to cancel or receive a refund, and they refused to issue a refund or even credit my account. They also said I would have to pay if I wanted to cancel.

That makes no sense. Order confirmation is sent automatically by their system once the order is in with your appointment scheduled. Did you speak to DirecTV (their official direct sales department) or were you dealing with a 3rd party (in a store, door-to-door sales, some other number, etc.)?

Yes once installed the order is final. Only if canceled within the first 24 hours has the Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) been waived (though everything else is still owed).

@Juniper  I checked my emails and that email wasn’t sent until the following day. I didn’t notice that charge since that only showed up if I went to the billing option online in my account. After I noticed the charge because of my bank i contacted them.

Something does sound fishy. DirecTV has always had the order confirmation go out once placed to make sure you have a chance to review before install. That is why I was wonder where exactly you ordered service. You want to make sure any complaints go to the correct place, be it DirecTV itself or a 3rd party dealer depending who took you order.
